Gr8 Sci - 04 group: Classwork

- students wrote a quiz on Genes & Chromosomes.

- students took notes on (Male)Reproductive Organs.  Seatwork was assigned and will be checked next class - pages 86 - 87( male organs, covering only those organs from the notes ).

Gr7 Sci - 03 group: Classwork

- students were given their Jello Model Cell lab writeups back.

- we corrected them, laying the groundwork for . . .

- a QUIZ they will write on Cells on Monday, 1rst Dec. , last period.

- we then wrapped up a Microslide Viewer Activity.

- we will start Reproduction next class.

Gr7 - 04 group: Classwork

- students got their Cells lab and quiz back.  It was corrected and requizzes were arranged for Monday, 01 Dec.

- we took notes on Reproduction, then students were assigned questions 1 ,  2  &  3 on page 128 in their workbook.

- we will correct this and do a second Microslide activity on Reproduction next class.

Gr8 Sci - 03 group: Classwork

- students got their Genes & Chromosomes quiz back.

- we set two dates for evaluations:  Tuesday, 2nd Dec. for a quiz on Reproductive Organs, and Wednesday, 3rd Dec. for a test on Diffusion & Osmosis plus Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration.*

* Yes, I KNOW these are back-to-back. We took a vote in class and approx. three-quarters of the class voted for this arrangement.  The Test topics are old and I need a test mark on them before they are forgotten.  The test is small - less than 10 Multiple choice questions and 4 short answer.  If they don't write the test on the Wednesday, they will go another whole week before they write it.

- we took notes on Gametes, viewed the video on the blog and assigned all questions on page 89 in their workbook.

- we'll correct this seatwork and start our next topic.

Gr8 Sci - 04 group: Classwork

- students highlighted vocabulary in their binder glossaries, then took notes on the Female Reproductive Organs.  They were then given seatwork.

- students will write a quiz on Genes & Chromosomes next class.

- we will continue with the Male Reproductive Organs next class.

Gr7 Sci - 03 group: Classwork

- students checked in on their Jello cell models and completed the writeup and handed it in.

- students then began a Microslide Activity to see real cells under high magnification.

- we will continue with this activity next class and then possibly start Reproduction.

- Students wrote a quiz on Cells.

- Students then continued working on their Microslide Viewer Assignment.  It will be handed in at the end of class.

Gr8 Sci - 04 group: Classwork

- students participated in an activity looking at the passing of genes from Parents to children( Heredity ).

- writeups will be due next class, when students will get a bit more time to finish them up.

Gr7 Sci - 03 group: Classwork

- students corrected questions 1 ,  2  &  4 on pages 119 - 120 in their workbooks.

- students then began an activity building a model plant and animal cell using foodstuffs.  The models will set over the wknd and work will continue on the writeup on Tuesday, 25th Nov.

Gr7 Sci - 04 group: Classwork & QUIZ!

- students were asked to inspect the model "jello cells" they made last class, make corrections to their write-up sheets about the cells and hand them in.

- students then began an activity using Microslide Viewers( baby microscopes )to view specimens and fill out a worksheet.  We will continue on this next class.

Gr8 Sci - 03 group: Classwork

- students wrote a quiz on Genes & Chromosomes. 

- students then began a new topic:  human Reproductive Organs; vocabulary was highlighted in their binder glossaries and we began taking notes.

- we will continue with notes and seatwork next class.

*to inspire the students to approach this topic with objectivity and maturity, students were asked to consider this part of the course as "real-life knowledge".

An interest in this topic could inspire an interest in the health professions such as Personal Support Worker, First Responder, Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Nurse.

An interest in this topic helps advise them about their own bodies and health.

And lastly, an interest in this topic gives an appreciation of how incredibly complex the human body is and how perfectly it works.

Gr8 Sci - 04 group: Classwork

- Today was a "catch-up" day for several students absent last class.

- for when students are absent, it was shown on the SMARTboard how to find out what was done in class and how to find notes missed.  The demonstration and discussion covered both the Teachers personal blog ( mrlphshomepage.blogspot.com )AND Microsoft TEAMS.  Corrections have been made to instructions on TEAMS to continue to direct students to the right place in future

- students first answered questions 1 to 8 on pages 59 - 60 in their workbooks. These questions looked at genes, chromosomes and the passing of DNA or genes from parents to children( Heredity ).

- we then completed the Class Trait Survey.  Students were encouraged to survey their biological parents, if possible, for next class.

- we will play a "Heredity Game" next class.  This will be their first mark of Term 2.

Gr8 Sci - 03 group: classwork and QUIZ!

- students will write a quiz on Genes and Chromosomes next class( tomorrow! ).

- students performed an activity meant to show how the passing of genes - heredity - works.

- the handout for the activity was intended to be handed in at the end of class. Students who did not complete the handout for the activity will hand it in 3rd period tomorrow( Wednesday, 19 Nov. ).

( this was a new learning activity for me personally, so I appreciate the students attempting this activity and working out the bugs ).

- students finished their Class Trait Survey in class.  They are encouraged to survey their parent(s) - if possible - to compare their own traits to their parents.

- students then were given time to complete a Cut-and-Paste Assignment on Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration.  This Assignmen mark will be part of term 1 marks and needs to be handed in by the end of this week.

- we then began a class survey to examine some physical characteristics they may or may not have as a result of their DNA.  We only completed part of the survey, but I encouraged the students to check their parent or parents if possible for next class.

- students did questions #1 ,  2  &  3 on page 74.

- students then began a Cut & Paste Assignment on Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration.  Work will continue on this next class.

Gr7 Sci - 03 group: Classwork, Assignment & upcoming TEST date

- this class was a wrap-up to our lesson on Evolution.

- students wrote a quiz on Evolution.

- students then finished discussion questions about their "Dice game" which was meant to show them Evolution( some students had been absent the day we did this, so they attempted to get caught up by playing the game this period. )

- as students finished their Dice Game writeups, they were directed to finish a "Darwin & Lamarck Reading Assignment" and hand it in(  See below ).

- we set a test date for next Thursday, 13th Nov. , 2nd period.  Topics covered will be:

- answers for questions 1 through 5 on workbook pages 74 - 75 were given.

- students began a cut-and-paste Assignment on the two Energy processes of Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration. 

- up to 1/2 of next class will be devoted to finishing this Assignment and it will be handed in.  I plan to start a new topic in the second 1/2 of the class.
